New England Book Talks

This summer I will be in Farmington CT, finishing my biography of the Chevalière D’Eon at the Lewis Walpole Library. The Library is an oasis where I have spent many happy times in the past. Either side of my fellowship there I will be giving some more talks about “The Met”, which came out last October. These kick off at the Union League Club in Manhattan on June 26, where I will be discussing the role the Club played in the establishment of the Met back in the 1860s. In Kingston NY on July 14, I will be focusing on a Kingston silver collector who laid the foundations of the Met’s American Wing - the magnificently-named Alphonso Trumpbour Clearwater. That will be followed by talks at the Scoville Memorial Library in Salisbury CT and Edith Wharton’s The Mount in Lenox MA on the 15 and 16 July.
